Landscape
photography is what I like best, and there is plenty of that here.
Home base for me is
Johnson City, Tennessee, in the
heart of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, so most of
my pictures have been taken around the rugged hills and rolling green farms of
Upper East Tennessee, the Southwest
Virginia Highlands,
and the North Carolina High Country.
But I like to travel, and where I go… my camera goes, too. There
are plenty of pictures here from other places besides our Appalachian Highlands. If
I see the opportunity for a picture that I think is interesting, or that I feel
conveys in a special way the beauty of the world around us, then it might be
here.
The medium I have
chosen for my work is 100% digital, instead of traditional film-based
photography. But I think now it is
a foregone conclusion that the future of photography is digital.
The possibilities of digital are endless… And the results can be amazing… And
sometimes breathtaking.
All the photos you
see here were taken with one of my digital cameras. My newest camera
acquisition is a Nikon D300, a state-of-the-art digital SLR camera that offers interchangeable
lenses and a CMOS photosensor with the power of 12.3 million individual color photosites. My current
camera arsenal also still includes a Sony DSC-F828, which sports an 8.2 million pixel CCD photosensor,
and a high-quality Carl Zeiss variable zoom lens.
I print all
of my
photos in my “digital darkroom,” using only archival inks and
the very finest photographic and fine art papers. My
photographic prints, if properly framed behind glass, and if kept out of direct
sunlight and high humidity conditions, will retain their colorfastness and
remain resistant to fading and environmental damage for more than 100 years.
